About Us

History

Established in March 2001, the Lansing Homeschoolers began as a Yahoo Group and then transitioned to Facebook to facilitate easier communication. Since then, separate Facebook pages were created to better communicate with just those interested in attending the classes held on Mondays. This page was created to have a central location to provide information about all of the Facebook Groups, Classes offered, Field Trips, and other events. In 2022, Diverse and Inclusive Collaborative Education became a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization.

Diverse and Inclusive Collaborative Education (DICE) is the new name of an old group. We rebooted after Covid-19 cancelled most of our activities in 2020 and are excited to welcome new members to our community.

Our group has always been about the people within it and we have always been a welcoming group to all. Most of our activities are in Lansing, MI and the neighboring communities. We are NOT a drop-off program. A parent/responsible adult must be present at all times during Monday classes.

We are a community of families that value education at home. Our purpose is to provide support, opportunities, events, and community to families who are interested in homeschooling, are currently homeschooling, or have previously homeschooled and want to continue to be a part of our community.

The board of Diverse and Inclusive Collaborative Education consists of 7 members who volunteer their time. We facilitate the coordination of Monday classes, field trips, fairs, and other events as enrichment opportunities for local homeschool families.

We are a welcoming and inclusive community for everyone regardless of educational philosophies and styles, religious or political preferences, ethnicity & race, marital status & family structure, physical development & mental health challenges, gender identity & expression, or sexual orientation.

Our purpose is to support each other in our homeschooling journeys. Each family has unique and changing needs for their child(ren). We welcome families who homeschool full-time or who enroll in public school part-time. We also have members enrolled in virtual schools. We support all types of educational philosophies from Classical, Charlotte Mason, Eclectic, and Unschooling.

We welcome members of other homeschool groups around town. The more active homeschoolers there are in the area, the more opportunities occur for all of our students. We encourage members to contribute by teaching Monday classes, volunteering on Mondays in other roles, planning field trips, and lending their talents to help the group. Everyone is allowed to create and promote their own events as long as it is inclusive to all.
